  6. Get a good 500 gb ssd or a 128 gb ssd (windows will take 50 gb) and a slave drive (500 gb hdd). note: ssds are fast as fuck.

For the graphics get a gtx 660 or two :p

Processor I suggest 3770>2600k>2500k>FX 8150 Black Edition 3.6GHz Eight-Core Socket AM3+ Boxed Processor. In that order but you can choose which one fits you.

For the mother board - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 has amazing Touchbios and very nice.

Also if you want a cool case a classic cool one is the nxzt-phantom.

If you give me a bugget I'll give a full build for that price which will be good.

I went with the Sabertooth X79 http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_2011/SABERTOOTH_X79/ (8 DIMM's, and up to 64GB of ram) and the Intel i7 3930k. I put SSD's in for my System, Two Scratches and another for my Swap drive. I also recommend WD Raptors for larger scratch drives if SSD's aren't in the budget (10k rpm's vs 7200). I've been using them what seems like close to a decade at this point.

There are lots of versions of SSD's. You should try to get at least a series 3 if possible.

  8. I have a asus rampage IV but thats not a bad motherboard either. Also the 3770k is better on a bugget and is very close with benchmarks.

Yeah, the 3930k is pricey. If you're only gaming, etc it's not worth the difference. I do think it's worth it if you do the intensive work I do in Pro Tools. Native Plug-Ins are resource hogs.

Yeah...$40-100.00+ every few years....I spend more than that on Taco Bell a month.

The Windows 8 upgrade is dirt cheap as well this time around.

Also, I actually think Windows 7 and 8 are both very good operating systems. Now if you asked me if Windows Vista was worth $100.00....to that I'd say...you couldn't pay me $5000.00 to switch to Vista for any extended period of time.

  25. If you haven't already ordered this, I would recommend you give a budget so we can build a better computer. The Inland power supplies appear to be a re-branded Powmax PSU. These things are not good at all! The mere presence of a manual voltage switch shows that it doesn't even have an Active PFC which is very bad. Not trying to rip on you here, just don't want to see another build killed by a woeful PSU! :)

Also, don't get the 3770k if you are just using this PC for gaming. Get the 3570k instead. The hyperthreading will not provide any noticeable gains. If you aren't going to ever overclock (which I would recommend against since I find it enjoyable along with free performance gains), then get a 3570. A solid case will also help. If you are in the US and can order through newegg, you can get some pretty sweet deals to push this build even further.
