I'm currently saving up alot of money and am wondering what you guys think I should get? Tbh I'd rather have a computer just for the freedom of doin more with it. If you think computer, could you please give me some good components for it. Thanks

Well there's no released price for any Steam console yet. IMO, a desktop would be better. You can just buy a PC gamepad, hook up your desktop to your TV as you would with a Steam console, go into Big Picture mode, and wallah! A console experience with your dekstop.

Also, if you were thinking that the Steam PISTON by Xi3 was a Steam Machine, you're wrong. It's just a really small PC with some really awesome gaming performance, that is going to be $1000. Taken from the Xi3 PISTON page, the specs are: AMD 3.2 GHz Trinity processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, ATi 7000 series graphics, and a 128GB SSD. What's really awesome is that the console is upgrade-able, increasing the RAM or up to 2 512GB SSDs.

Buying a computer, Steam Machine, or PISTON is preferences. You can't compare too much because a Steam Machine nor PISTON have been released yet, and a Steam Machine is a full console while the PISTON still seems to be a very small, high powered and expensive PC made to act like a console. Xi3 keeps referring to it as "PC (PISTON Console)", but later in the PISTON FAQ, it was stated that "PC not only means Personal Computer," so it's pretty much unknown what the hell it is lol, so far, I'm not a fan of Xi3.

Now if you were to get a computer (just saying, you should really build it yourself), you gotta think first, what's your budget? I can't help much without a budget, I might as well just say buy 4 GTX Titans, a ROG mobo and a i7-4770k processor lol

I think steam means for you to have a computer along with the steambox although it is possible to just have the steambox.

Im guessing you mean Steam Machine by steambox, but the Steam Machine will have it's own OS. If it becomes dependent on another computer, then there's no point of the custom OS, an making a console period. A console should be a standalone computer designed for gaming.

Big Picture has a browser, so SteamOS most likely will. You can watch all the porn you want Reta

Totally forgot to think about this earlier! SteamOS will be available to install on any PC, so even though Xi3 PISTON will probably come with Windows pre-installed on it, you can get SteamOS on there yourself. But I doubt that the real Steam Machines will be $1000, the only reason that the PISTON cost $1000 is for the size of it.

I'm in the beta pool for the steam box so...
If I do happen to get one- be on the lookout for Information ;)
If you need more information on the Steam Console, go onto the store page and click the circles. It's also worth noting steam IS NOT BUILDING THE CONSOLE , only the OS. They made 300 hardware prototypes, but anybody can make their own steam console.
    It's weird.

Heh heh no. How do you expect me to test it and tell you guys how it performs if I don't have it? <3
Also worth noting if you plug in a PS3 controller and use motioninjoy (driver software) It will act as a gamepad- allowing you to get around using a gamepad. :p
